Muso City Percussion: Bongos

Here at Muso City we love percussion, especially hand percussion! We also know that hand percussion can seem a little boring at first glance, but nothing could be further from the truth! Percussion is all about layers; the sum is greater than its parts, but we're going to focus on the bongo drum this week.

Bongos first appeared in Cuba in the late 19th century, but their roots most likely travel further back than that into Africa. One thing is for sure, bongos are infectious. Their popularity grew quickly in Cuba and other Latin American countries, later spreading to the United States and the world. In the video above Chris is playing a rhythm often used in the "habanera", a popular musical style and dance.

We've got heaps of different Drumfire bongos in-stock, so why not grab a set and start having fun with this culturally rich and intoxicating instrument today!
